Unknown Caller: Garrett, a German Morning Radio, and the Summer Ahead

Every Monday morning on HIT RADIO FFH, hosts Julia Nestle and Johannes Scherer play a small, warm game on air: they dial a public figure without warning and try to guess who has picked up, working from the voice alone. On 20 April 2026, a voice answered — unmistakable, half-amused, instantly familiar to anyone who has heard it speak about the violin. The clue, when it came, was gentler than a chord: the love for the instrument.

What follows, once the game is over, is a fifteen-minute conversation that runs through everything David tends to talk about best: the summer ahead, the way he stitches classical and pop together, the violin as a lifelong companion, and his conviction that he hasn’t finished trying new things.

The 2026 Millennium Symphony Open-Air Tour comes through Hessen in July. Among the stops: Kassel’s Friedrichsplatz and Bad Nauheim’s Trinkkuranlage. The programme is Garrett’s usual summer alchemy — Pop, Rock, R&B and EDM pulled across the violin and arranged for symphony orchestra, sized for the open sky. Beyoncé, Rihanna and Coldplay all make the cut.

“Playing modern music on the violin is what gives me the most joy. That mix is part of what I love most about making music.”

He lingers on the craft side of the work — his arrangements, he notes with a smile, are frequently copied by colleagues — but he sounds most at ease talking about versatility itself: the running lists of songs he keeps for future albums, the refusal to settle inside one genre.

Asked how it all began, he isn’t quite sure whether the love was his from the start or simply absorbed from the household. An older brother, a violin already in the house, a child in proximity: Garrett suspects the affinity arrived sideways. What he is clear about is what the instrument gave back — demanding, yes; but, by the same measure, fulfilling.

On career ambition, Julia and Johannes try to corner him into naming a prestigious hall he still dreams of. He deflects into something quieter: he isn’t chasing specific rooms. He’s chasing the balance — work and life, yes, but also the restlessness of finding something new to try.

And yes, for the record: the hair products are high-quality. But on tour, he admits, he improvises.
