I Love Music: The Night “Survivor” Gave It Back

“Music was my first love
And it will be my last
Music of the future
And music of the past
To live without my music
Would be impossible to do
In this world of troubles
My music pulls me through”
— John Miles
I’ve loved music my whole life. I play instruments, sing in choirs, and music has always been a part of my life. My motto has always been a quote by John Miles. But what this quote truly meant only became clear to my heart at David’s concert on April 3rd, 2025 in Cologne.

The years 2020 to 2025 were difficult for me for many reasons, especially personal ones. Yes, I continued to play music throughout this time, but there’s a big difference between “playing” and “making music.” I had somehow lost the emotional connection. Then, in 2024, the advertisement for Millennium Symphony came out of nowhere, and I decided to buy tickets for Cologne.
I saw “The Devil’s Violinist” in the cinema in 2013, bought the DVD, and almost all of the rock CDs from David. In 2024 I bought Millennium Symphony and was looking forward to the concert. I went there with a friend, and everything started like a typical concert visit.

The concert started and I enjoyed the music. He was good, the guys were good, it was great. I was really able to enjoy it, to put all the stress of the last few years aside… beautiful. Songs to set the mood, songs to dream to, a fantastic stage show… what more could you want?
Then came “Survivor,” and I can only try to describe what happened: it wasn’t “just” music… his way of musically embodying this song touched me so deeply in my heart. It turned everything I had learned about music and how I had experienced it upside down.
Suddenly there was only pure emotion and music, honest expression, from heart to heart, without ulterior motives… pure love for the music, for the instrument. It was magical, wonderful, and he also gave me back my connection to my music, my instruments.
I perceive music differently, I play music differently, I am connected to music in a way I’ve never experienced before, and I love it.

Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, David.
