Luis Toro Araya
He played the violin in Chile's National Symphony at eighteen and left it for the podium three years later. In June 2026 he walked onto the stage of his own theatre in Concepción carrying the instrument again.
Born in San Vicente de Tagua Tagua in 1995. Violin with Alberto Dourthé at the Escuela Moderna de Música and at the Universidad de Chile, then conducting in Weimar with Nicolás Pasquet and in Zurich with Johannes Schlaefli. A Karajan finalist at twenty-six, prizes in Rotterdam and Liège, two years as assistant conductor of the Orquesta Nacional de España, a Dudamel Fellowship with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, and second prize at the German Conducting Award in Cologne in October 2025. Chief conductor and artistic director of the Orquesta Sinfónica de la Universidad de Concepción since March 2025. Since 2022 he has quietly been putting the Chilean composer Enrique Soro back in front of European orchestras.
