Julien Quentin
Ask him about a concert grand he has never played, and he will tell you the first question is not whether it is a good piano. It is: who are you?
He came up through Geneva, Indiana and Juilliard — Alexis Golovine, Émile Naoumoff, György Sándor — with Badura-Skoda, Magaloff, Sebök and Earl Wild along the way, a lineage he can trace by ear. He records for EMI, Decca and Channel Classics, plays chamber music with Ax, Batiashvili, Capuçon, Fröst and Gabetta, and has been David Garrett’s musical partner for more than fifteen years. From Berlin he runs Musica Litoralis at the Piano Salon Christophori, teaches harpsichord because it changes what he hears in a piano, and makes electronic music, which he treats as the same conversation carried on by other means.
