Justus Eichhorn
Both his parents play the violin. His mother plays the viola as well. His sister played the cello. He is the one who sat down at the piano — in Weimar, where Bach once spent a summer turning Vivaldi's string concertos into keyboard music.
Born in Weimar in 2009, improvising at three, at the Hochschule für Musik Franz Liszt with Grigory Gruzman since he was nine. A first concerto at ten, Beethoven's Second at the Tonhalle Zürich at thirteen, the Third at the Seoul Arts Center at fourteen, twice at the Verbier Festival Academy. He conducts, and he composes: three of his own pieces are on The Source, his Deutsche Grammophon debut, alongside Bach, Liszt, Mendelssohn, Hindemith, Czerny and a Vivaldi he arranged himself. Asked whom he would most like to meet, he named Mozart.
